The Lusail Development is one of the most significant mixed-use developments planned for Qatar which will be a natural extension to Doha city. The focus when designing this luxury development was to reap the full benefit of its exceptional location. Nested in one of the most prominent bays in Lusail, the development will be a shimmering ensemble of `mounted sails´ overlooking the Persian Gulf.
With a gross floor area of 89 000 m² the design consists of six iconic towers which subtly incline upon height. The towers are placed as such that they create special sight lines on corners, entrances, etc. Ground levels are public orientated, consisting of retails stores, sports facilities, shopping areas, restaurants and bars. Apartments and studios are situated on lower floors. As one ascends apartments become more secluded with less noise and better views. Penthouses are smaller with double room heights. An underground parking was integrated into the design for optimum space usage and convenience.
The key concept of the general design was to offer maximum views from all towers which would respond to the beauty of the site. One of the main ideas was to integrate atriums in the center of each tower that would provide sunlight, enhance the ambience and maintain a balance of light. Through its inclining structures and simplification of form the towers are not only iconic, but masterpieces of modern day architecture with a conventional Qatari presence.
The planning of Lusail Sails has already started and the first phase of the project is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.
